Jackson Hole has every type of skiing for any ski enthusiast that loves to experience the best runs in Wyoming.

Teton Village is about 12 miles northwest of the town of Jackson on Highway 390 by way of Highway 22. If you are in Salt Lake City, Utah, you will be surprised that the best skiing around is only a five-hour drive to Jackson Hole.

Jackson has a low base elevation of 6,311 feet with is one of the lowest in the Rocky Mountains. Most of the resorts in Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico have base elevations between 6,900 and 9,500 feet.

Normally, during the winter season Jackson Hole Ski Resort has 1,750 skiers throughout their 2,500 acres of terrain.

Jackson Hole Ski area is known for the longest continuous vertical rise in all the United States with 4,139 feet from the valley to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. It has a wonderful 63 passenger aerial tram that can have you to the top of the mountain in only 12 minutes.

Characteristics of the Rendezvous Mountain includes the Apres Vous and the Rendezvous Mountains, 2,500 acres of in-bounds terrain, a vertical drop of 4,139 feet, a base elevation of 6,311 feet or 1924 meters, a summit elevation of 10,450 feet or 3185 meters, the uphill capacity is 12,096 skiers per hour, and open backcountry gate system with over 3000 acres access.

The runs are divided with 10 percent for beginners, 40 percent for intermediate, and 50 percent for expert skiers.

There are several different types of lifts, which include one aerial tram, one eight-pax high-speed gondola, two detachable quad chairlifts, four fixed grip quad chairlifts, one triple chairlift, one double chairlift, and one magic carpet.

The average temperature in Jackson Hole Valley is 21 degrees Fahrenheit. There are inversions, which are caused by warm air rising and cold air staying in the valley can raise slope temperatures by 20 degrees to 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Jackson Hole Resort has many wonderful children’s programs for children 6 months to 17 years of age whether they are busy in a day care with planned activities or out on the slopes learning all there is to know about skiing individually or in a team atmosphere. Children’s winter programs are offered December until the beginning of April each year. They also offer a summer day camp.

For adults Jackson Hole offers adult camps, which includes for the 2006 – 2007 winter season Jackson Hole Ski and Race Camp, Women’s Ski Camp, Women's Snowboard Camp, Steep & Deep Snowboard Camp, Steep & Deep Skiing Camp, Backcountry Camp, Tele Steep & Deep Camp, JH Nordic Rendezvous Training Camp, and Women's TeleMark Camp.

Mountain Sports School is a very popular way in which to learn the ropes and have a great winter vacation at the same time. The school offers private lessons, children's programs, snowboard packages for group lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced riders, ski packages for group lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers, backcountry and alpine guides, adult camps, team extreme/rendezvous rippers for group lessons for advanced skiers and rider ages 12 to 17, and adaptive skiing. There are some wonderful facilities for all your skiing adventures, which include:

There are five unique restaurants that you are sure to enjoy which include Casper Restaurant, Nick Wilson’s Cowboy Café, Thunder Snack Shack, Corbet’s Cabin, and Solitude Cabin Dinner Sleigh Rides.

Jackson Hole is a famous ski resort and people from all over the world travel here just for that reason. Skiing is the most popular recreation in the area. For the skiing enthusiasts Jackson Hole offers unique terrain, beautiful scenery, and awesome powdery snow.

The resort itself is really in two different locations, Teton Village and town of Jackson Hole. They may be 12 miles apart but are linked by shuttle. You can choose wonderful location in either Jackson Hole or Teton Village. Heli-Skiing is fast becoming one of the most popular adventures in Jackson Hole. High Mountain Heli-Skiing has been in operation since 1974 and has 305,000-acre terrain just south of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, which includes Snake River, Palisades Mountain Ranches, and parts of the Hoback, Teton, and the Gros Ventre Mountain Ranges.
