Jackson Hole is known for its unique ski runs and fabulous winter sports. When you first arrive in Jackson Hole, you will hear all about the spectacular runs that visitors enjoy for all their winter activities whether they desire skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing.

There are so many different activities to enjoy in Jackson Hole that you may have trouble deciding which one to participate in first such as snowmobiling, skiing, Cross Country Skiing, showshoeing, Skate Skiing, Nordic Ski Fitness Sessions, Telemark Sessions, Snowshoe Tours, Nature Ski Tours in Grand Teton National Park, Telemark Guided Backcountry Tours on Teton Pass or in the Jackson Hole Backcountry, Sleigh Rides, Dog Sledding Tours, Heli-skiing, or just sight seeing.

When it comes to attractions in and around Jackson Hole, you will find that this area of Wyoming has several National Parks and Forests for you to explore. The most popular ones include Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Parks, Bridger Teton, Targhee, National Elk Refuge, and John D. Rockefeller National Parkway.

Most of the runs around Jackson Hole were named after the geographic features of the valley itself however; the ridges were named for the early mountain explorers, while the bowls were named for cities and towns throughout Wyoming. It is interesting to learn how these runs were named and more fun to ski down one after you know a bit more about its history.

Ray cook, a former mountain manager had the desire to put a lift on the crest at the bottom of the headwall. He had been warned many times and the dangers of severe avalanches in the area. However, he went ahead with his plan, in less than one week after completion an avalanche destroyed the lift and left behind a knob, hence the name of Cook’s Knob.

Traveling down Grand about half way you will encounter an 8-foot rock. This rock is known as Bean’s Beanery. Pat Bean, a former trail crew member, happened upon this rock and accidentally skied off the rock, when he took the ski patrol with him to show them the whereabouts of the unmarked rock he once again skied off the rock. This is when this unique 8-foot rock became known as Bean’s Beanery.

No-No Chute is just that! The chute looks very inviting and exciting. While two ski patrollers were placing rope up in the area to keep people out realized just how inviting it really was to see. The reason the area is marked off is because of the rocky bottom that can be dangerous. However, when they decided to ski downhill, Paul McCollister called after them “No, No!” The patrollers went down anyways and named the chute No-No Chute.

Jackson Hole has many interesting stories not only about the runs, but also about the beauty and the wonderful attractions. Jackson Hole has activities all year round for the entire family, a secluded getaway for rest and relaxation, or for the couple that desire some time alone in a romantic setting.

Winter of course brings many activities associated with snow, while summer brings rock climbing, tram rides, Kids Ranch Summer Camp, Disc Golf, Paragliding, Hiking, Golf, Horseback Riding, Sightseeing, Biking, Rafting, Kayaking, Fishing, Mountaineering, Wild West Shoot-outs, Chuckwagon Dinners, Western Shows, Jackson Hole Rodeo, and concerts.

When planning your vacation in Jackson Hole you will find that there is so much to do and see that you may not have enough time in only one vacation to experience all that Jackson Hole Valley has to offer. You should sit down and write out a schedule so you do not miss out on any activities, attractions, sports, or fun that you desire. Once you begin shopping, skiing, or sightseeing you will soon realize that you will have to make a returned visit to Jackson Hole because 2 weeks is just not enough time to experience Jackson Hole.

The majestic beauty of Jackson Hole is one that has visitors returning all the time because with each season comes a new and inviting look whether the mountains are blooming with wildflowers or are covered in a blanket of white snow. Not only does the look and feel of Jackson Hole change along with the seasons, but the wildlife changes as well. You may notice elks on one visit and a grizzly bear the next. Jackson Hole is ever changing and well worth the time invested to explore the entire area.
